TAG to UCSB or UCSD? Coming from CSU to CCC and not sure if IGETC will be done

I went to a CSU for a year and realized I did not want to stay there. I am starting a CCC this summer and will be going there for a year. I took most of my general ed at my CSU. Here they are:

Area 1:
English Lit AP Test
Honors Critical Thinking
Honors Communications (only needed for CSU)

Area 2:
Statistics

Area 3:
Introduction to Music
European History AP Test
US History AP Test

Area 4:
Macroeconomics
Introduction to Psychology
Introduction to Criminal Justice
Government AP Test

Area 5:
No Physical Science
General Biology with a lab

Area 6:
Spanish taken 2 years in high school

UCSD requires that IGETC is done to TAG there. Is it too much of a risk to TAG to UCSD because they might not accept one of my classes and then I wouldn't have IGETC done? Also, when does IGETC have to be done by? The time applying for TAG? Because I'm trying to get into a physical science at a JC but it is very difficult and I don't know if I will be able to get in one this summer.

The TAG doesn’t have to be completed until the Spring before you transfer, not when you fill out the TAG form in Sept. I know this because I was accepted to UCSD as a TAG applicant and my IGETC wont be complete until this semester.

Oh ok. But still, what if they won’t accept some of my classes? Should I just take some classes in those areas that I am unsure about just in case? I need to get to 60 units anyways and my major doesn’t have that many major prep courses.

You could take some classes that fulfill areas you are unsure of. You could always try contacting UCSD admissions sometime during the year and ask if they would transfer. Also, my CC had a transfer center that was pretty helpful with this sort of stuff you might want to look and see if yours does as well.

UCSD TAG requires you to complete 30 UC-Transferable courses from a CC only before you can apply their TAG

jdom24: I know at a CC they can assess what they think will transfer but the UC could deicide differently. I will look into some of that. Thanks.

lawlking: Isn’t just supposed to be 30 transferrable courses? It doesn’t necessarily have to be from a CC. You just have to have 30 units from a CC by the time you transfer. At least that’s how it is for UCSB

^^The TAG agreement for UCSB is completely different from UCSD.

Well I looked at the UC TAG matrix and it didn’t say anything about needing 30 units from a CCC in order to submit a TAG. It just says that you need 30 by the end of spring

I am in the same situation as briane777

Can anyone find out if UCSB TAG requires 30 units from a CC only, or can it be a total of 30 units from a combination of a 4 year college and a CC???

Please answer!!!

Here is UCSD TAG: [Transfer Admission Guarantee: Fall 2013](http://www.ucsd.edu/prospective-students/transfers/prep-programs/tag.html)

Note: For above, it says to be ELIGIBLE for UCSD TAG–in order words before you apply for their TAG

@TonyStark93. No, UCSB does not require the first 30 units from a CC only. Only the last 30 UC-transferable units must come from a CC. However, you need at least 30 UC-transferable units in order to qualify for UCSB TAG

Thanks.

Btw

lawlking, I’m having a hard time remembering, but were you the one that said you got accepted to UCSB as a Econ/Accounting major?

^^I’m accepted to UCSB and TAGGED with Pre-Sociology major.

It doesn’t say that. I could be wrong, I’ll admit, but I read this to say “are you eligible to be admitted thru the tag program” and not “are you eligible to apply”. Meaning this is what you have to have completed at the end of your community college time, not when you submit the app.

Until someone contacts UCSD admission and finds out what they say I think the matter is still uncertain. lawlking has posted his/her interpretation of this several times, and if it is wrong I hope it hasn’t discouraged someone who actually could have applied and been accepted.
