TAG TransferableMath Requirement

Hey guys,

I've seen two counselors at De Anza and they both gave me different answers, so I'm a bit confused. I asked a similar question here a few weeks ago as well, and same thing. So I'm gonna give it another shot.

This quarter now (Spring 2011) is my 3rd quarter at De Anza. I want to transfer to a UC by Fall 2012. My major is Business/Econ and I will be applying to UCSB, UCI, UCLA, UCB, and UCSD.

My GPA by the end of this quarter is going to be around a 3.82.

Now, I messed up on the Math Placement test and am in Math 114, which is NOT transferable. I'm taking that class this quarter.

TAG says that you need to take a transferable math by the fall of the year before you transfer. So for me, I'd have to take a transferable math by Fall of 2011 (btw, does that mean I have to have it DONE by then, or I can take it that quarter?).

Based on what I've read, I can take Math 51 @ Foothill this summer, and then by Fall of 2011 I will be in Math 49 which IS transferable. My issue here is, I may have to go away this summer, and might not be able to take a summer class.

What options do I have?

You just have to have the transferable math class done by the end of Fall 2011 (so have it finished or be currently taking it when you apply for admission in November). They want to see your grade, which will be included on your application update in January 2012. As long as the class is done by the end of fall, you’re golden.

I go to de anza as well and if you look at their math 10 class, the only requirements are a c in math 114. Math 10 is a statistics class and is on the igetc list as well and so that will take care of that problem. Also if you need to go high up the math chain and cant waste time on side classes, you can do what i did which is take math 10 and math 51 at the same time because statistics is a pretty easy class.

I have a question regarding this as well - what’s the deal with CS classes and fulfilling the math requirement?

i am in my transferable math class (statistics) this semester (not last fall) and it counted… i am transfering Fall 11.
