Major: Economics

I heard some rumors that TAG doesn't really help your entry into UCSD, could someone bring some light on this subject? and what are my chances to the other 3 uni's?

Why doesn’t TAG help our entry into ucsd?

TAG doesn’t guarantee impacted majors at UCSD. You’ll be fine getting in since Economics is not an impacted major.

[Impacted Majors](http://www.ucsd.edu/current-students/academics/majors-minors/impacted-majors.html)

hope this answers your question

What Vintagesoul said.

TAG is irrelevant for impacted majors since you’re competing against everyone for those spots. If you add a non-impacted major as your secondary choice, then it matters, but only for that major.

Either way, UCSD’s non-impacted and non-TAG cutoff was a 3.2 last year, so you’re fine even if you didn’t have TAG.

@Grimes99: why did UCSD accept everyone who had GPA above 3.2? I’m just very curious… That means they only consider GPA? And how did you know that last year’s cutoff was a 3.2?

@berkeleyphil: UCSD doesn’t do comprehensive reviews. For transfers, all they care about is your GPA, not your EC or essays. They set the GPA floor at 3.2 last year after figuring out how many applicants they had and everyone at or above that GPA got in. Anyone below 3.2 didn’t (for non-impacted majors) barring something drastic.

I spent about 10 hours in the admission counselor’s office last year due to all the issues I had, so I got to know their system very well. I was informed a number of times the cutoff was a 3.2.

@grimes: wow, thanks… you really know a lot about ucsd! I have never been to ucsd… how is their campus? I heard that it’s huge. And do you know anything about their transportation? my license is suspended until December 2011… so if I go to ucsd I will be taking the bus.

^ I heard that transportation at UCSD is pretty good and convinient.

@berkeleyphil: The campus is nice and pretty large. It’s right next to the beach (literally) and there are multiple roads throughout campus with buses, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting around. The 6 colleges are somewhat spread out, but not a whole lot. But like I said, there are plenty of routes throughout campus with bus paths.
