After reading this article in Towerview, I was wondering what the current situation is regarding Tailgate. It appears as if the administration is really cracking down on partying considering recent events. I was also wondering how the party scene is at Duke now with the apparent switch from on campus partying to off campus partying.

The only real change to Tailgate (and I say this as a freshman, so it's largely based on what I've heard compared to last year) is that it's no longer officially sanctioned by the university. Basically, they no longer block off a certain parking lot for Tailgate, but there's been no crack-down per se.

There's still plenty of partying on campus -- frats live in sections of campus dorms. Also, "off-campus" is a term that should be used loosely: indeed there are parties at clubs off campus, but they're within a couple of minutes of Duke and they're attended entirely by Duke students. It's not like going to Columbia, for instance, which has no on-campus social life to speak of and where small groups of friends go their separate directions on weekend nights.

My only recommendation is to come to make sure you bring some interesting outfits to campus.

Also, there are still tons of parties on campus, especially first semester
