Academics:
I am from one of the best schools in New Delhi,India and it is very very competitive. We do not follow the American education system so I had to study for SATs, and APs myself, no AP courses. Also keep in mind that the Indian education system is much more rigorous at the high school level vis-a-vis the American high school system.
No GPA or school rank, we follow percentage system
I can only give you the SECTION rank where section is a subset of class. There are roughly 18 sections in each class comprising of 50 students each.
Class 10th- 94.3% Sec Rank-2
Class 11th- 88% Sec Rank-3 (Very tough year for everyone)
Class 12- Exams due, will work hard

Got a national level rank in the Math Olympiad in Class 7 and 8 and a medal at the state level in science in Class 6th. (Will these count?)

Got a 100% International Percentile in the ACER English Exam in class 9th (This will count!)

Achieved Distinction in the All India NSTSE Science and ASSET Exams from Class 6th to 8th

UNFORTUNATELY NO SCIENCE OR MATH OLYMPIADS HISTORY SINCE Class 9th (I know it's a very big blow, but can I survive it?)

Recs and Essays:
Will be very good hopefully, I am a good writer

THATS ALL ABOUT ME. LITERALLY. PLZ BE CANDID AND THEN I WILL CHANCE U BACK ALSO.

Well your stats all look very good, and your ECs are quite interesting as well as varied. If you can make sure your essays are top-notch and that your teacher/counselor rec letters are good also, then I’d say you have a very decent chance to get in Cornell.

thx so much…to every1 else- why do u guys view my page and then not leave a post…how much time will it take to say in or out? Plz chance me coz you might also one day want someone’s feedback!!!

What college are you applying for?

well, with internationals it’s always hard to get in, but you seem to have the stats.

If any school would be most open to internationals, it’d be engineering. :)

I think the common attitude in this forum towards “chance” threads is…quite clear to say the least.
sarvarox12 Don’t sweat about not getting enough responses, because chance threads are never among the popular ones. lol

Do you have any extracurriculars that are similar to what you want to be doing/majoring in college?

I would say you have the average, or a little higher than average stats of a typical ivy league school applicant, except for the fact that the stats don’t seem very geared towards engineering. I see spelling awards, speaking awards, delegate stuff, model UN stuff, and a lot of english stuff, not a lot of engineering type stuff.

Unfortunately, I do think the fact you haven’t had any math/science Olympiads/competitions since grade 9 will be quite a big blow towards your chances specifically for the college of engineering. In fact, other than your mentioning that “UNFORTUNATELY NO SCIENCE OR MATH OLYMPIADS HISTORY SINCE Class 9th”, I see absolutely no indication of why you want to apply to the college of engineering. Pretty much all of my high school extracurricular activities were all related to engineering in one way or another.

I would highly suggest to either choose another college in Cornell to apply to, more fitted to you extracurriculars, or at least definitely do dual enrollment to the College of Engineering, and then to another college in Cornell, maybe the college of arts and sciences.

And in addition to all of this, the fact that your international makes things probably twice as hard for you in admission.

aren’t test scores and academics enough to demonstrate my aptitude for the sciences?

^…lol
that may be true…but
aptitude is not the only thing when it comes to college app
otherwise, all the GPA monsters and SAT 2400’s would be able to go anywhere they want (well maybe they do?..dunno)
but anyways, aptitude is only one of many factors in the selection process, just as important as others such as passion, interest, personality, and … FIT!

you’re fine. We had about the same SAT scores and grades, and almost all of my ECs were debate or music related. I hadn’t done Math Olympiads since the 7th grade. I got into Engineering RD. I made sure to make the focus of my essay on my interest in engineering rather than on other stuff.

lol i never did a single math or science olympiad at all and i got in.
