given my essays, teacher recs, and inteview go well - do u think i have much of a shot? or am i just like every other med program applicant?
thanks any advice will be great

For BU, perhaps you should try to get higher scores on the SAT's and SAT II's. Not that yours are bad or will keep you out of the program, but I think they like high scores...couple of 800's tossed in wouldn't hurt, if you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong- scores won't make or break you, but they do seem to be important for med programs, even more so than for normal undergrad admissions.

If you're funny, as the seinfeld club would suggest, that'll definitely help you in your interviews.

I can only speak for Bu's program, thats the only one I did from your list. You will get interview spot but you need chem sat 2 for BU. From there, depends on your interview skills more.

i thought i did really well at BU's interview, so i thought i had a good chance to get in.. i feel that your test scores, extracurriculars, transcript still matter after the interview, probably 50% of the decision i'm guessing...

as for your chances, i agree your EC's and classes are on target, i do think you need to bump up your standardized scores, and also take chem sat2 as previously mentioned... try and do well on those as PSU is really number-oriented in order for you to move onto their interview stage

thanks im retaking the sat in october and aiming for a perfect - my only problem is the critical reading section which i will work on over the summer, my sat2s im a little worried about but i will maybe retake or atleast take the chem sat2 in november and that should be fine i think

oh and just a general question - during the interview do they ask u random questions like the usual why u want to practice medicine, or more along the lines of medical ethics stuff
i think it will all come down to the interviews

no out of ordinary questions, i always see it as like a casual conversation.. i wouldn't sweat the interview, just go in and be yourself and answer honestly

Interviews often depend solely on the interviewer. BU has you interview with two people, a professor from undergrad and one from the med school. I had an awesome conversation with the undergrad guy, and I think he was a big reason why I eventually got in. Also, I had the feeling that it was more of a recruitment effort on his part than an interview. The med school interview was absolutely horrible. The interviewer grilled me- and I mean grilled- on biology, genetics, current research topics in science, etc. It was insane, but I kept my cool and never let him intimidate me, which is what I think he was trying to do.

So moral of the story is, just be yourself. Do that and no matter what happens, you won't feel bad about it later.

wow, asterstar, i had a similiar experience! the medical school professor was horrendously difficult as he probed me with challenging science related questions; but the undergrad professor was incredibly nice and pleasant, making me feel more at ease during what seemed like more of a conversation than an interview.

does any one have any suggestions to help me up my chances for the psu or bu med progs? in terms of maybe extra currics? or what teachers to get to write recs or if i should ask a nurse at the hospital i volunteer at? any general suggestions would be awesome.....oh and say where u applied if u did and where ur going and stuff

oh and one last thing.......does college admissions come down to a luck draw because if it does......ill just end up at suny bing or something no matter how much effort i put into it

ivybound1010...I'm going to the psu program. I would say do a lot of various volunteering work or at least rack up a lot of hours for a specific cause. I wasn't in every single club my school offered, but the ones I were in, I held an officer position. When you get the application for psu's program it'll say to get recommendations from one teacher or counselor. I got one from BOTH my counselor and bio teacher. I don't know how good of a recommendation a nurse or volunteering advisor would be able to write...as teachers and counselors can write about both your academic potential and personal traits. Good luck!

I want to apply to one of those ba/md accelerated programs but i don't know if i have the stats to do so.
