I have many questions regarding the U of Arizona and things related to transferring from UA to another university. Before I catapult you with my questions I would like to project a few facts about myself.

I'm 16 years old and I'm currently in my senior year completing the IB program. I was born in Los Angeles, California but I've been living in the Middle East (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) for 15 years. I have always aspired to become a surgeon and researched extensively for good institutions that suit me. Upon my research I have found that becoming a doctor in Europe is radically different then becoming a doctor in NA. In Europe medicine may be taken as an undergraduate course with a duration of 5 to 6 years, whereas in NA medicine is a graduate course in which you must complete an undergraduate course to apply. Knowing this I applied to an Irish university called RCSI and fortunately I was offered a place. Until I irrationally changed my mind and decided that I don't want to study anywhere but the US. To my misfortune it was too late for me because most universities deadlines passed. I found out about UA and applied directly after I found out it had a late deadline.

My questions to you are:

First of all. Is UA a good university academically?

Is it known as a good university?

Is it safe?

I had this plan in my mind where I would apply to UA and transfer to a university in California ,which is an area where I am more familiar with and love dearly, examples of universities I would transfer to are USC or UCLA

Is the above statement reasonable?

Naturally since I'm doing pre-med my major is biology.

Is the biology program in UA good?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING! I will be indebted if you answer my questions.

PS: Please don't flame me

PSS: Please do not move this to an inactive board! I really need help! I literally cannot sleep at night!

if i were you, id go to a junior college in california for their transfer rates to a UC school are “infinitely” times better than the rates of transferring from UA to a UC.

Some of the CA community colleges even have transfer agreements with USC in addition to the UC’s. You would stand a much better chance at a transfer taking this route. UA is not considered a strong school, it takes the vast majority of applicants.

Thank you so much for the replies. I know this is a viable solution it’s just that due to my circumstances and facts that I have mentioned in my post I doubt after working so hard to achieve an IB diploma will I apply to a junior college. It’s just not… possible…I want to but I can’t.

Hanna that simple comment provided me enough reassurance to help reassure me for the rest of my life. That statement helped me realize that as long as I stay motivated and continue to aspire I can become who I want to be no matter where I am.

OhSnap – If you are wanting to practice medicine in the US, you might want to check and see what steps people who receive their medical degrees abroad have to take in order to be licensed to practice here. It may well be that a person who receives a medical degree in a foreign country is in a different position than a person who received an MD here. I’m not sure about this, but I think you’d be wise to check it out.

I have indeed. And you are correct , it is different. Thank you for the heads up

If I studied in a foreign institution I would have to take the USMLE test in order to be able to practice in the US. Moreover one must do internships both in the US and out of the US , according to knowledge I have gathered from various sources.

All in all I guess studying out of the US would be a shorter yet more difficult path. But now that I have already set my mind to a path of medicine in the US I guess it will be the long route for me. :)
