^ All reaches.

Yes, the more reaches you apply to, the more chance of getting into one of them.

Not true. If you’re a reach for all of them they are all still low probability. There is no change in the probability if you don’t make one.

Thank you for all the suggestions!! They are greatly appreciated.
I don’t mind an open curriculum, but I hate how wide open Brown’s is, and Yale is not the right fit. But after reading a bit more on Dartmouth and Duke and the strong strong prevalence of Greek life, I took them both off of the list. I actually like the idea of eating clubs at Princeton.

I love 4-1-4 schools and the focus on global learning that seems to come hand-in-hand. So I think I will keep Colby & Williams.

I visited Swarthmore, but it was a little too small and too quiet for my liking. Does anyone know more information about Elon (safety), Loyola (safety), or Emory (reach)?

I keep trying to shorten my list, but it always ends up being long!! I’m trying to keep it under 15, but I can’t depend on getting into the super reaches/reaches so I want a range of schools to pick from from Matches/Safeties.

I have taken posts into consideration:

SUPER REACH
Princeton
Claremont McKenna
Pomona
Stanford
University of Pennsylvania (love the urban-campus interaction!)

REACH
Williams
Rice
Tufts
Carleton

bumpin’ this on up :)

Um… I think Williams and Middlebury are more selective than Claremont McKenna, FrenchSilkPie.

Williams should be in the “Super Reach” for sure. Have you tried UChicago? Its a campus in an urban environment that you so like. It’s an elite university and its very good for what you’re interested in.

I definitely think you should visit Olaf. my best friend is there and loves it. The sense of community is very strong, as is the school loyalty and traditions. It’s not very diverse, mostly pulls kids from the midwest, but it is conservative leaning and not very party hardy.
While you’re in Northfield, might as well check out Carleton too, but they are known for being more of a party school.

I already listed why Middlebury is in the matches section previously…didn’t know about Williams, thanks! I will look into UChicago but I strayed away from it because I thought the campus life wouldn’t be as strong.

I can’t afford any college visits, so I won’t be able to visit any schools besides the ones with diversity weekends. So I’ve visited Hamilton & Swarthmore, will visit Middlebury and hopefully a few more.

American is a match, and you might qualify for merit aid, which would make it less expensive. You would probably be in the honors program, which is filled with kids who only went to AU because of the money they got. My son’s RA is finishing at AU in 3 years, with no debt and going to medical school.

Thanks!! Ok after visiting Middlebury, I just am starting to think that this “fit” idea doesnt really exist for me. I can’t seem to find a school I am in love with and dying to go to.

Does anyone know of any suburban/urban schools, friendly campus, diverse, no greek/small percentage, unified campus!?! Any ideas would be appreciated. I will look into U Chicago.

hey check out macalaster, city, not big greek, and diversity weekends!! probably a match. What are sat scores or act? Its hard to say match otherwise

Thanks for the suggestion! I have a 32 ACT, but I want a more moderate/conservative school. Or at the very least balanced politically and I have heard that Mac would not fulfill such requirements

I would look into Georgetown.

I went to UChicago but as a grad student. I didn’t fit in - it was much too conservative for me. I have no idea what it is like to be an undergrad there except that they seemed to be are a very small part of the University as, imo, it is much more of a graduate school institution.

17 schools? Whoa…

If you don’t like Greek life I don’t know if you would like eating clubs. For LACs that are a little more conservative, you should look at Davidson which was mentioned earlier but I didn’t see whether there was any reaction to that.

The rep on Claremont McKenna is that they party a fair amount.
I’m not saying you can’t avoid that, and I don’t go there so I can’t speak to the accuracy of that rumor–however, if you’re looking to cut anywhere you can you might as well scratch a reach.

Thanks for the advice given above! Davidson is too tiny and rural, as great as it sounds. I don’t see myself in Chicago, so that ruled off UChicago.

I revised my list…took off most of the rural schools and I tried to compile a list of mostly non-Greek schools with diversity, strong in science/poli sci, in the city/close to one but still have a strong campus feel with students remaining on campus. Mostly schools with at least 3,000 undergrads.

SUPER REACHES

Davidson is 20 minutes from Charlotte NC. Certainly small, but I wouldn’t consider it rural.

Oh! Well I didnt know it was that close. Too bad it’s in North Carolina, not too keen on the south.
