take a look at my college list..thoughts?

quick stats: i'm a female from michigan, applying to college this fall. 32 act, 3.75ish unweighted gpa, 4s and 5s on APs, will take 7 APs by the end of hs, good ECs with leadership

i am interested in eventually pursuing journalism but i am not dead set on a journalism major; i also really like environmental science. i like campuses in cities or good college towns, especially schools that are really integrated with the town (i.e. michigan). i can afford to pay ~30k a year without debt.

college list as of now:

-loyola chicago (safety, potential for good merit aid, i like the campus)
-university of michigan (in state, family connections, LOVE the campus & student newspaper)
-michigan state (in state, safety, good j-school)
-boston university (i haven't seen the campus but i think i'd like it from what i've heard. good journalism, i think i can get in)
-northeastern university (i think i'd like the campus, good programs in what i want)
-wellesley (free application hahaha one of my friends is going here and wants me to apply but it's definitely an excellent school, and i like the idea of a woman's school)
-barnard (my favorite school ever but it is expensive and i doubt i'd get in)
-fordham (i've heard the campus is beautiful, they have communications, i love new york city)
-mcgill (LOVE the campus, they have a good student paper, i love montreal)
-university of missouri (guaranteed admit, fantastic j-school so i feel like i might as well apply? also a safety, and i think i could get merit aid. and i would be in the honors college.)
-university of denver (love colorado, my cousins live there, good journalism program)

anyone have any thoughts on these schools? i feel like they are all very different but i'm not sure what i want. also, if anyone can shed some light on student publications at these schools that would be great!

It’s good you have some in-state safeties that you like and can afford. Based on that you have the waterfront covered. It looks like you could be admitted directly to the J school at Missou [Undergraduate Admissions - Missouri School of Journalism](Undergraduate – Missouri School of Journalism), and it looks like you could even afford the OOS costs [Costs | Undergraduate Admissions | University of Missouri](Costs – Mizzou Admissions).

fyi
wellesley has a large toxic waste problem, they have been “fixing” it for years.

Northwestern

I don’t recommend Northwestern for your needs, actually. Northwestern is extremely expensive, and their financial aid is not generous for people without obvious need. It’s difficult and actively discouraged to double major with Journalism, as the requirements for Medill and the rest of the college are completely different. Northwestern’s Journalism department is prestigious, but the students are very cut-throat and the department is unforgiving and inflexible.

Having said that, they have amazing internship opportunities, a fantastic faculty, access to Evanston and Chicago, brilliant student body, and a beautiful campus. It comes at a pretty high cost though, and not just in price.
