Take a Peek Inside.....

Chance me please...I'd like percentage and some advice on how to improve my chances. My stats aren't complete because i need to retake some tests to be a truly competitive applicant. Here's a lil background: I came to America from Haiti when i was 4 and went to a terrible school system until eighth grade. During eighth grade, I applied to private school myself much to my parents' refusal (i filled out financial aid forms myself). Therefore going to private school and competing with wealthy kids with really great educations prior to going to high school was a challenge but i didn't let that deter me from taking all the honors and AP courses i could get into. I just love a challenge even at the expense of my GPA.

SAT: 1890 (don't want to send, but will probably have to)
ACT: 29 Comp. 31 eng, 31 math, 30 reading, 25 science :( Retaking for a 32+
SAT II: Bio M: 730 Math II: 600 retaking
AP: Bio 5, Euro 4, USH 3
GPA 3.6 UW-this will be my downfall probably....i'll bring it up tho...

School info: Very selective and highly competitive private school that doesn't rank. Only 100 kids in my grade so top 10% literally means the top ten kids. lol There's huge grade deflation as well and there aren't a lot of A's given. NO ONE has a 4.0 UW; I'm not exaggerating.

EC's
Captain of Cross Country
Varsity 3 years
Captain of Track
Varsity 4 years
Founder and Pres of school's first Improv Club, we have about a dozen devoted members. (It's so much fun)

Awards:
AP Scholar (just got this, so thrilled)
Cross Country: Prep Champion and Second Team all conference champion
I've won numerous medals
Track: Won my heat at states and am ranked 15th in non-public B division. I've also won a couple of medals here as well.
I do the musical in the winter just for fun

Work: Slaved at CVS from July 2008-May 2009, really terrible timing during my junior year to do that, but it was better for my parents. This summer I'm working as an office manager/assistant to the director of the Summer Session office at my school. It's a really tough job but it pays well. So what do you think???

FYI these are my real stats. The other chance thread i made were projected. :p

You need some more ECs and try your best to boost your SAT or ACT to at least a 2000+/31+. You’re a URM and with your background, coming from Haiti and the whole private school thing, you can write a really moving essay. You definitely have a shot if you boost the test scores, get a few more ECs under your belt and write some beast essays.

Good luck!

Any other thoughts…

I agree with Free Focus.

What college and/or major are you applying to?

I’m applying to the college of arts and sciences…if that helps at all…i want to study either biology or econ.

If you’re going to do a bio major, why not HumEc? It has a higher admit rate, so you’d have a better shot. If you’re not sure though, I suppose CAS is your only choice. Either way, a URM with a compelling life story has a great shot, especially if those scores go up.

bump…

O my…
The numbers don’t look good at all as of now. I’d say definitely retake those tests and improve on them. EC’s are pretty interesting tho, and they show some dedication as well. Other than that, I suggest obtaining a couple of brilliant rec letters and writing a kick-ass essay that’ll bring the admission officer to tears.
