do i have a chance to be accpected??

You have a chance. How do you stack up against others from your school? What's your rank and percentile?

The only thing that I'm not sold by is your GPA and SAT are both below the middle 50%. I believe it's a 3.9 W GPA and 1240-1380 SAT for the middle 50.

hmmm

i'm 45% rank

and do i have a strong chance to beaccpected i mean

I don't want to discourage you, but I'm going to be realistic. If you're in the top 45% chance and an Asian American, I do not have strong feelings that you will be accepted. The reason I say this is because Maryland is a large public school that has quotas to filled, quotas for in state students and minorities as well. Usually students from the top 10% and below are accepted, there are a few exception to the rule, but mainly it holds true. Unless you have a very heart touching story that can explain extenuating circumstances for your low rank, then I'd say look elsewhere like Towson, UMBC, and other instates.

I agree with Bruins, you need to have a factor in there that admissions can overlook those academic scores and rank...i.e. 1st generation Asian, and English is not spoken at home. From there they can see that you had to battle the English language and can overlook the scores.

Out of curiosity what is the young scholars program...DS is in Scholars, and your gpa is far off from the kids he knows in the scholars program

hmmm give me an opinionated percentile for my presumed accpectance to cp

anyone???

and so am i still in the ballpark for my accpectance to college park?

i agree with bruin. i'd have to say at least 25%-30%. you STILL have a chance. a slim one though

Well i have a gpa almost exactly like yours( a 3.23) however my SAT's are 730m, 710CR, 710w which add up to a 2150. I am also in-state and my EC's are similar to yours except i have more in terms of sports haha. Im thinking my class rank will be top 20% as my weighted gpa is a 4.5 and some people have told me i have an ok shot. Take that as you will. Also i dont want to hijack your thread but if people want to chance me too thats fine ^^

State schools are pretty stat oriented; you don't have great stats. The rank is.. not good. Pretty low chance D:

that's good for you
but you have not answered my question
its a yes or no question pple

When you are calculating your GPA, I hope you are not including your electives. Universities only take your main subjects into consideration when calculating your GPA, so if your A's are not in the five main subject areas, then your GPA is actually going to be calculated lower.

I was surprised a second ago. I'm already in college but wanted to know my UM GPA and it only came out to be a 3.43 UW/ 4.0 W (main subjects only) compared to with electives (3.7 UW, 4.2 W).

how does college park caluclate their gpa
just calculate the gpa usually without electives?

rank is 45%? ... what school are you from? how many students did your school send to top schools last year?
your school will matter in this case.

you did ysp at college park this past summer?
so did i, and i was in the bio class
what do you mean by laboratory leader? there was no such thing in the bioengineering and bioproduction class I took, but yours may have been a different one..

i attend river hill high school in howard county one of the top schools in the state

not bioproduction
but biopharmaceutical production
