Take a "Solid" Chance on Me

that is so weird. we must have been in the same class.
but that lab leader thing didnt exist, i feel like youre fluffing your resume and umd will know it because they hosted the program
since when is river hill one of the top schools in the state..? the only thing i've ever heard of it for is track
its never been listed as one of the top newsweek schools and several from maryland have..
does it have an ib/magnet program or are you just inventing prestige for your school?
if you havent sensed it, im a little offended

by the way, the packet with the course title says bioproduction and bioengineering

zzap

river hill is a pretty good school. Newsweek says it's one of the best non-magnet schools in Maryland. but not as good as the two schools in Bethesda, the richest town in Maryland.

ok i dont mean to hate on the school or anything (i actually just looked it up, and its better than I had previously thought) but in terms of admission to college, that could actually hurt you if you don't take advantage of all of the opportunities etc.
i took offense to the claim about being a leader in the class, because there were no such distinctions, and i dont rescind that.

^ i agree. river hill is a pretty good school and i heard it offers a lot of AP's. but that it's offering many AP's could hurt you, since you've taken only 5 AP's, including this senior year.

I agree with the last 2 posts. Included in every transcript for admission is the list of AP/IB, Honors and STD courses. Also it shows what you need to grad. So if your school offers 15 or more APs and you only took a few, but at the same time took Teen living, they will see it and they will know it. Many kids last yr got on and said I was rejected and I have a 3.5 gpa, while the 3.3 got in. Why? Simple answer the 3.3. kid got B's in AP and you got A's in Honors...they wanted the kid that took the harder course load which sometimes translates into a more successful feshman student

yes i am aware
but would i have a difficulty of getting into cp

At this point I would say it would be difficult with a 3.2 and not breaking 1200/1600 on the SAT...HOWEVER, I am not on admissions and there could be something amazing in your file. I am just going off of the scores that were showing up last yr and what references (i..e USNWR, college admissions, etc) typically state about UMD.

hmm well if you lie on your app and they realize it they probably arent going to look on you too favorably.

shalalalalala please keep your thoughts to yourself next time ok?
an argument may ensue
and i do not want to start an argument ok?
my apps are truly not lies ok?

does anyone want to comment my chances???

anyone think i can be acccpected to colege park??

Bruins, ad and myself have all said, it looks slim to low, however, none of us are on the admission board. You can only be accepted if you applied. You will know soon enough.

Here are some reasons.

GPA is on the very low end for UMDCP

Your SATs are very low, the 50% marker is in the mid 1200 (I think I read it is @1240),

Not in NHS, honor roll is fine, but it is different than NHS.

Not enough hard courses for your school...5 APs when many more are offered means that you didn't take the hardest course load. They can overlook a lower GPA if you have taken the hardest course load, but it is hard to overlook it when it isn't. Many of these kids also have several AP English courses and more Ap history (APUSH, Govt, World, etc)

You may make it in for general admission, but def not any specialty schools unless you are applying for music.

I just wanted to comment on #33 - Most admissions offices don't place a lot of importance on NHS since high schools set their own standards, some of them bizarre.

gahh then there is no hope!!
LOL
its fine.........

NO there is always hope, but it is not a shoe in like someone who has a perfect SAT, varsity sports capt, class leadership etc.

You don't know your essay could make them see something and say you are in! We are just saying on paper it is not a safety school and more of a reach.

ehhh is reach good or bad ??
i know what it means tho lol

you will find out in a month I basically agree with what everyone has been saying.

how do they recalculate their gpa

Snowy, why do you keep asking these people to chance you, they are not going to give you a concrete yes or no unless they are working for admissions at UMD...and what admissions officer would do that anyways? People are giving you good, thoughtful advice so just take it in and do what you can with it.
