I am currently about to be a freshman at NYU and recently I was invited to take part in the advanced chemistry course. However, the advanced chemistry course is much more difficult than the general chemistry course and it also involves taking calc II, which I believe is not neccessary for med school. I was wondering if it would be better to take general chemistry and get a higher GPA or would colleges like me to take a higher ranked course and see me challenge myself.
Depends on what you are leaning towards. Medical schools, depending on where you want to go, perfer if you obtain as much information as you can in chemistry. It doesn’t really matter if its “advanced” or not. The ultimate goal once you get out of the chemistry class is if you do well on the MCAT for chemistry. Besides every professor is different for any subject you take. If you feel like its in your gut to take the advanced chemistry do it, if not no shame in that.
I would take general chem at first and see how it goes. You need a high GPA for med school.
