Take Calculus and Physics during summer. Bad idea for premed?

I understand that taking classes at a community college is bad. But I will be taking these courses at the university that I am currently attending over the summer. The reason that I am doing this because I changed my major so I have to take these two courses as prerequisite in order for me to take other courses next year (otherwise everything will be pushed back by a semester).

If you are taking them at your school and are doing it so that you’ll have the opportunity to take more advanced classes then I think it’s probably fine. It certainly won’t have the same “taking the easy way out” connotation.

Do not take pre-reqs in a summer. Why? Many pre-meds graduate with combo of major(s)/minor(s) in 4 years without single summer class. In addition to obvious easy way out, the impression would be that you cannot manage your time. Not very good impression especially in comparison to others. enjoy your summers, spend time with friends, go to the pool, read, whatever makes you happy, these opportunities will be gone sooner than you wish.

I mean I don’t really have a home to go to so that’s why i decided to stay for the summer.

And it’s only one semester of Physics and math anyways. I already took Physics 1 and Cal 1 Spring semester already

Miami, if OP is going to fill his transcript with more advanced classes, I don’t see why it would be viewed as taking the easy way out to do a couple pre-reqs this summer?

If it was Biology it could be a problem but I do not think medical schools really put much emphasis on Calculus and Physics prerequisites. As an undergraduate Astronomy major I was very familiar with those two subjects but in four years at a U.S. medical school I encountered absolutely no Calculus and a truly minimal amount of Physics in my medical school classes.

I am not sure about the reason for question if it has already been decided. Do whatever your heart desires, why to ask then?
