I first took the ACT with Writing in Feb 2007 - I got an 11 on my essay, which I was really pleased about. However, I'm taking the test again in June to see if I can bump up my composite score a little higher. Do I need to take the Writing section again when I test in June or can I use my February 2007 essay score and my June composite, in the event that I get a better composite score in June?

You have to take the Writing section again if you want to improve your score. Colleges won't accept a composite score without writing. An 11 in writing is very good.

What was your composite?

34, which I realize is good enough as it is, but I've only taken the test once and I personally don't think it'd hurt to give it a second go to try and bump that up to a 35.

A 34 is great! Your writing score is great!

I would be really happy with those scores!

I got a 27 on my highest ACT(and last for most colleges) and an 8 on my essay(b/c there's a different comment on my essay than before, I think the graders gave me a 5 and a 3.)

If you really want to take it a second time, ArtAficionado, take it with the writing section. IMO, since a 34 is on the higher end for every top-tier school in America, and a 35 or 36 isn't really going to improve your application a whole lot. Once you break the 34 benchmark (or possibly a 33...I got into Duke w/ a 33) you're pretty much set with standardized testing.

^ yeah I'm thinking once you hit about 32 or so you're good to go.
