I know it doesn't hurt to try, but rather than spending $200-$300 on Ivies, I could do more with that. I have 31 ACT, #1 class rank(out of 100 so not sure if they'll care), and a lot of ECs(which I know needs more). Can you guys sort of just give me stuff I would have to have to get into Ivies like Princeton, Harvard, and Yale that if I didn't have, I shouldn't even bother? I've never visited them, and I believe 20,000 apply every year and less than 3000 get accepted. So should I just leave them?

Not really enough information for anyone to tell. Though lots of EC’s is not the issue, it is focus on a few that is more meaningful. If you just collected tons of them, they will not do you any good. You see the term passion, you need some you that demonstrate that. Jack of all trades versus being a Master.

I was considering applying to a lot of ivies, like you, and spending lots of money. however, now I figured that it’s best to apply only to my favorite ivy–Cornell Univ. I don’t have the statistics of an ivy student and I realize that. However, I decided to give it a shot, so I won’t regret not doing it later. Who knows what they might find in me. I advise you to think about your decision and do what is best for you.

your essay

Use your time and Early possibility wisely. I would spend now doing the applications for realistic schools (matches and safeties) really well. If there is no time on the end for Ivys, fine, but if you get done witjh that and you have time for a few apps, then go for it, you have nothing to lose. Plus after filling in the match school appplications, you will be a better application writer for the Ivy schools.

“The Ivies” aren’t one distinct entity. In fact, they’re all very different… like any other sample of schools. Why don’t you research them, you know, as individual schools… and apply to the one or two or three that you find most appealing?

^ agreed…they have completely different feels…

Honestly, just give it a shot to at least a couple of them. With your grades, tests, ECs, if the guy reading your essay is in a really good mood, you’re in. It’d be different if you had no shot, but that’s not the case here.
