take math 54 & 53 before 1b?

is this possible?
i just got my ap scores and i got a 5 on ab sub and 4 on BC and i really don't want to take 1b at Cal i would rather take it at a cc...is there a way i can just take 54 and 53 now and 1b next summer??

1b is ajoke compared to 53,54... the curve is overblown by most ppl just take 1b and put some hard work into it

but i don't wanna take 1b at cal i heard its killer...i would rather just do 53 & 54 first...

1B over summer is better because it's not a prof teaching it, it's just a GSI ("Instructors" are their summer titles, I believe) leading a small class. The exams are written by your GSI as well. I had a much better experience taking math1B over summer than during the regular school year...obviously, because I didn't pass it the first time around, which prompted me to take it over summer. Go for 53/54, take 1B over summer - sounds like a decent plan to me.

ok good..i was just wondering if i will be able to take 53/54 because i heard 1b wasn't a prereq for them...?

Oh, you really, really really need 1B for 54 and 53; it most certyainly is a pre-req. Take it from someone who's taken all but the last.

Oh, and I really don't get why everyone says 1B is such is big deal. It was no harder than 54.

1B is not useful at all in 53 as long as you remember how to integrate/differentiate. Seriously. It's a little bit useful in 54 because you need to solve diff eqns, which are introduced in 1B, but loads of people and I found it pretty easy to teach ourselves the essentials of 1B diff eqns.

i got a 5 on ab sub and a 4 on bc and when i went to calso they forced it down our throates to start at ab....?

i got a 5 in Calc BC and I can waive the calc requirement for Haas. But my advisor at Calso insisted that i should start all over at 1A. She kept trying to scare me about my chances for Haas admission if I don't take math at Cal. She said it would make me look like I thought I was a superstar (these aren't even my words). I really don't want to take two math classes that I've already been through. Would that affect my chances for Haas?

1B weeds people out. The people who find 1B hard (me, for instance) never make it to 54 to find that out. ;-)
