Hi all. My friend has a friend who entered a poetry contest that addressed one aspect of the admissions process. I thought it would be interesting to share the winning poems with you...some really make good points. Enjoy!

Most adcoms tell you not to do this. However, I've known several people who wrote some darn good prose for their essays ( including my mom) and got into the colleges of choice. The catch is that it better be darn good!

taxguy, those weren't college essays. They were winners of a poetry contest in which the subject of the poem was the college admissions process -- pretty clever ones, too!

I loved the one that begins I'm seventeen, sir. It captures perfectly the feelings aroused in the normal 17-year old about having to write about his or her unique qualities, experiences, yadda, yadda.

Hmm, from the title of the post, "Take on College Admissions in Poetry Form," I thought they wanted to use a poem as their essay. Nevertheless, I loved the poems.
