I'm a freshman and do not know what to do! I basically screwed up my first 2 quarters this year but am improving.

Grades: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th(Likely)
English 9 C+ B A A
Health and PE 9 A B+ A A
Latin 1 C C+ C+ B+
Intro to Marketing B+ A B+ A
Biology 1 C B B+ A
World Hist/Geog 1 B B A A
Geometry C+ C B A

For my Final GPA I am expecting a 3.2 or 3.3... I am very disappointed. The first two quarters I played 4 sports (two during each season) and I barely had any time for anything... 3rd quarter I tried harder and got better grades. This final quarter I am going for almost all A's.

Basically I have realized that my classes are very easy and I am most certain I will end up with those scores. The bad part is my GPA will still be as low as 3.2. I really want to go to a top school and it looks like my dream is over...

Basically what I need help with is deciding whether or not to take all regular courses next year to increase my GPA, or take honors and work really hard and hope for the best. Please help me with my problem on what to do!

Take honors and hope for the best; colleges love to see that you challenge yourself even if your grades take a slight beating, and in all honesty, honors usually isn’t that much harder. Of course, you could just take a mix; go for honors in your strong areas.

Im very sorry.
Those are regular general level classes that shouldnt have been too much of a problem
I dont study for my classes and I still get A’s

well, the first question I have is whether they would even permit you to go into honors classes with a 3.2/3.3 GPA? around here, B’s and B+'s stay in regular level classes…you may want to find out given that honors classes are as you say, “much, much harder than regular”

You’re telling me that you’re having trouble deciding between looking intelligent and being intelligent.

I hope failure follows you through life. You deserve nothing better.

(I don’t really mean that. I only wrecked your self-esteem to teach you a valuable life lesson you will never forget. Don’t take this too personally ;))

rodney i already found out I am allowed to take honors.

Aero I agree with what you said and it made me realize that I should take the honors course, the only problem is that at my school we do not get .5+ or 1+ added…

I am dedicated but idk what to do… should i take all honors? My friends who are really smart get B’s and C’s in honors and they tell me its much harder… They say that the teachers don’t even tell you what will be on the test and alot of questions on the test are materials they haven’t even taught…

If I were going to take any honors I would choose science, but its chemistry and I dont even know if its difficult or not in the first place.

Take advantage of those honors courses. They will prepare you much better for college. Not everyone is afforded such opportunity in high school. If you are, realize it.

^ I know the question “do colleges prefer B+ in honors/AP or A in regular?” comes up a lot, but the answer is not that clear cut.

The most honest answer is that they’d prefer A’s in honors/AP.

If you think you can handle Honors, then go for it. But do not sacrifice GPA for course rigor. You can get into schools without rigorous classes, but not without a good GPA to back it up.

Thank you for your advice Gryffon5147 I have decided what I will be taking:

PreAP/ English
AP World History
AP computer Science
Chemistry 1 (maybe honors i have to talk to my counselor)
Algebra 2
Gym
Spanish 2

Ill be taking the most AP’s possible for a sophomore at my high school. I am going to take next year seriously, and work for those A’s wish me luck and thanks!

ight Droyd, Why do you have to be such a **? like, this kid is asking a genuine question and you just creep onto the forum and on him. you don’t know his situation or wat his school is like. and he plays 4 sports. your comment helps no one, every1 is gonna think your a dck and i guess you’ll chuckle in self-gratification. anyways, ya go for the honors, worst comes to worst you can switch down to regular, but honors is sometimes easier than u think. many people get intimidated because of the “honors” but in my opinion the difficulty of a class often is more dependent on the teacher than on the level of the course

i back andrew’s comment. [wow, conceited much?]
…except for the whole ‘honors might be easier than u think’ thing…not in my school
but yeah, it really does depend on your school/teacher, so ask around.
