Hi! I'm looking to apply to top schools. So here's my current SAT stats (superscore):

2280

760 CR
790 M
730 W

Here's the breakdown of my writing score:

1st time: 730
8 essay, 47 MC

2nd/3rd time: 710/720
10 essay, 45 MC

I know that I'm capable of getting both a 10 essay and 47 MC, and with extra studying time this summer I am confident that I could achieve this. If I "superscored" my top writing components, I would have a 760, which would get me over a 2300 and make me competitive for the top schools I'm looking to apply to.

I’d say it’s a bit of a money waste, considering the drop in score from your 1st to your 2nd test… (how unlikely) If you really are confident you can go ahead ^o^

No. You are absolutely fine for several competitive schools; essentially, no school will reject you just for your score. In fact, most would say that 4 attempts is too many, unless there is a good reason for it. So, just having that 4th score on file (for schools that request all test scores) could serve to your disadvantage even.

If you’re really not satisfied with your standardized test performance, take the ACT in September. It is a different test, so it requires additional preparation, but feel free to take it if it will make you happy.

Your score is perfectly fine, especially your CR and Math scores. Remember that schools often take the Writing, and especially the essay, scores with a grain of salt. Some, like U Chicago, completely ignore the Writing score. There is a reason why the new SAT is getting its biggest makeover in the Writing section.

1550/1600 is good enough for any university. Focus on other parts of your application.

Your score is fine. If you really feel bad about it and if you think it’ll bug you, then sure go take it! But in my opinion, a 2280 doesn’t need any more improvement :)
