Took SAT in Aug and got 1510 (780 E, 730 M),
Gave it again in Oct. got 1390 (600 E, 790 M) - I cannot explain the lapse in English …
My super score is 1570 and highest is 1510.
Is retaking SAT advisable? Will colleges penalize for 1390?
My GPA is 3.7 and 4.2 (weighted)
I’d stop if I were you. Your super score is great. Any college thtsuper scores would be delighted with it. I see zero point retaking, because the very few colleges that want to see all scores will see your lower score, no matter what.
Thank you. Any additional thoughts/guidance.
Not sure what else you need to hear. Are you aiming for tippy top schools? They will want all test scores. If you retest, you might get a lower score, or you might get a higher score, but it doesn’t matter. Nothing is going to change the fact that you got 1390. Your chances of scoring higher than 1570 are remote. If you get higher than 1570, it’s not going to give you an admission boost. Any college can see that you are capable. You run the very real risk of getting a score lower than 1510 (as you have already seen), and THAT will not help you. Stop while you are ahead.
Yes. I agree with @Lindagaf
You have nothing to gain from taking it again.
Thank you for the guidance. I had enrolled for SAT in march - will cancel and focus on other aspects of application. I would like to go for tippy top schools
