How many times can you take SAT without it being a negative? My son (junior) took old SAT twice, just took new one and plans to take new Sat again in June. Thanks for any info!

Whoops! This was posted by NJmom, I did not realize I was on my son'd account! Thanks.

A while back, after a similar post, someone had spoken with adcoms at some of the top schools (HYP etc) and was told to take the SAT as many times as you are comfortable with. If you think you'll be able to significantly raise your score and you're willing to fork over the money, go ahead and take the test. Most colleges only consider your highest composite score (highest M + highest V + highest W for class of 06+) anyway, and even if the adcom's were to see all your scores (which they probably dont, just because of time) I don't think adcom's would see anything wrong with a person whose scores show a steady improvement over time.

That said, many people believe that taking the SAT more than 3 or 4 times is excessive.

Why do they think it is excessive? In my son's case, he was in October of junior year (This year) and he wanted to have a try at the "old Sat" before it became history. I guess if the Sat was not changing, he would have just taken the new one 3x.....................
