before the sat i'd taken the old one before twice and i took 2 math practices the few days before the test and i got
790V/710W (8 on the essay?!?!)/690M

I took the ACT completely cold, no preparation at all and got a 36 composite
35E/35M/36R/36S

Seems to be alot of bashing of the SAT, and I'm somewhat confused as to why. I don't think of myself as left brained at all, but I got a 2390 on the SAT. The math and critical reading were a breeze, and writing was pretty easy as well. It seems like the ACT is a much more generalized education test, as it also incudes other sections like science; however, that's probably one of my worst subjects.

The SAT is no harder/worse of a test than the ACT. Both really just test your ability to study for/take that test. It just depends if you want to focus on only 3 different sections, or have a broader field. Neither test is at all an accurate display of any sort of intellect or intelligence.

Also, as Andi0rz said, they're huge money traps. (Cost for taking each test + cost of study materials + cost of retakes) x Thousands of students taking the tests each year = $$$$$$$$$$$

The ACT material is unbelievably easy, thers only 4 choices.... though i must warn that its all about timing, you need to train yourself to move fast or you flat out won't finish. SATs kind of like that too, but you have to really think on some questinos, ACT is just easy questions, but realllllly fast

The SAT seems more drawn out to me too, with something like 10 sections (1 of which doesn't even COUNT, ***)... I liked that I could sit down to ACT math for one hour and then be done with it and move on to the next rather than have it broken up into like 3 sections with all those stupid little breaks.
