New site for touring..Very well done if I might say.

haha, I saw this last week and drooled all over the keyboard at Cobb Hall and the Rockefeller Chapel.in almost every picture with students in it, they all seem to be either studying or in an intense academic debate. As can be expected. :p

An amazing find, guys! There is at least one ditzy blonde on campus at UChicago.

Those are great pictures. I only wish that they would've put in pics of that "amazing" book store (NOT the Barnes and Noble) everyone fawns over. Unfortunately, I didn't see it during my visit there. Does anyone have any pictures of the place?

<a href="http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/011004/bookstore.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/011004/bookstore.shtml</a></p>

<a href="http://www.brianklinksiek.com/galleries/hydepark/coop_int.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://www.brianklinksiek.com/galleries/hydepark/coop_int.jpg</a></p>

It's like that throughout the whole bookstore...Absolutely huge...You could get lost...

Wow...I think I had an orgasm. Now if I don't get in...then damn it.

wow that place isn't for claustrophobics, is it? haha i wonder what would happen if you knocked over a bookshelf...

Giant bookstore!

hyperventilates

If you knocked over a bookshelf, I'm pretty sure you'd end up with a squashed person.

After taking the "tour," I want to go to Chicago even more. In particular, I liked the social sciences quad.

Ok, I'm not going to look at anything like this again so in the event that I get rejected, I can "let it go" more easily.

Doesn't the Sem Coop remind you of the catacombs?!?! In a good way, haha. That bookstore, and the other seven-odd independent bookstores in the neighborhood make going to UChicago worth it in themselves. In fact, I rated every school I visited by the quantity and quality of their independent bookstores. Obviously, Chicago wins!

it is a very cool little (yet big) bookstore.

So much stuff is crammed in there that it becomes a fun adventure searching for books.

It looks pretty nifty, for sure. Thanks deus. And ditto j10cpc5000, I don't think it's healthy for those of use who are still waiting to search out more cool things about UChicago. Some days I feel as though an acceptance is definitely possible, and some days I feel as though I'm a definite reject/waitlist...I hate all this uncertainty, but it will all be over in just a month so I can deal. :)
"...eventually two New Yorkers created an academic bookstore, Labyrinth Books, inspired by the Co-op." Hehe, "labyrinth" is the first word that popped into my mind after seeing those pics...followed quickly enough by "David Bowie" :p

Come on, think positive! Anyway, I hated that movie...

CC proves that U Chicago is nerdy! No one on the other college threads would get as excited as we did about a bookstore. :)

Thanks warblers.
That's true, I really like the vibes I'm getting from the posters here. A big reason for me applying was the intellectual (aka nerdy) culture that I thought united the student body. What I see on this board is definitely a reflection of that culture!

I also really like the intellectual atmosphere at the University of Chicago but I wouldn’t call it “nerdy”. I’m going to define what is nerdy and what is not nerdy according to my experience.

Nerds: Somebody who knows a lot of information but they could not apply to real life. For example: Star War trivia.
Intellectuals: Somebody who analytically gather the most important information and is able to apply their knowledge though debate (persuasion) or physical application.

Nerds: Somebody who ate a lot of information.
Intellectuals: Somebody who digested a lot of information.

Nerds: People who do not like to have conversion or debate with other.
Intellectuals: People who welcome challenges from others.

Nerds: People who can’t stand up for their rights, dignity, and honor.
Intellectuals: Somebody who demands their fair share of the pie.

Nerds: Somebody that get “b*tched out” in a hand of Texas Hold’em and loses to a bluffer.
Intellectual: Somebody who will analysis the other player’s past behavior and odds.

Ok, come on guys, no more calling University of Chicago a nerdy school.

oh my gosh, i just completely drooled all over my computer screen. and that bookstore. wow. wow. wow.

c'mon chicago adcom, admit us already! pretty please?

At my school being a "nerd" is like everyone. We actually call everyone nerds as a sort of term of endearment.

oh jeez, I'm just setting up camp in that bookstore whether or not I get in... It's not like they'd ever find me!
