Take university courses online, when in highschool

I know in the US, you can take online courses while in highschool. I want to take a programming course just for preparation purposes, however I cannot find any place that will allow a highschool student to take a course. I wish Canada catered to the smart, like the US does.

I believe that if you want to get a taste of computer programming (when you say programming, you mean computer programming, right?) , I suggest downloading some e-books or buying some books and start learning a computer language by yourself (e.g. Python, Basic, Pascal). It’s really not that difficult as long you are willing to study. I suggest “Starting out with Python , Tony Gaddis”

You sound like you want Athabasca University. The only requirement is being 16 and being able to pay the course fees. I’m planning on registering in about two months, looks like it’ll be good way to go beyond.

Now this really depends on your guidance consular, but there is a good chance of being able to get a “prior learning” credit in high school. This depends on where you live, but to my knowledge there are two computer science programming credits in Ontario’s learning system. There is ICS3U and ICS4U, both which cover Java (Java seems to be the big introduction language here in Canada). I would recommand taking COMP 268 as that seems to quite similar to ICS3U, except harder.

Hope that helps!

metaxa13, I’ve been doing this for years.
Cherii, thanks! I already have/am getting ISC3/4U. However, I’ll take a look at this.
