As a new student (transfer: sophomore standing) I was wondering whether the norm is to take (4) or (5) classes a semester. Apparently, "full-time" at Willamette is (3) credits, though this seems low.

How many classes are you, or your child, taking per semester?

“Although you are considered a full-time student if you enroll in at least 3 credits per semester, the normal load is 4 credits taken in “solid” subjects.” – [College of Liberal Arts: First Year Students | Willamette University](http://www.willamette.edu/cla/dean/firstyear_students/registration_overview/index.php)

My son took 4 classes per semester as a freshman, and that was a common course load. 1 semester credit at Willamette = one full semester course. He’s hoping to take 4.5 credits next fall, (this is actually 5 classes, one for half credit) but is currently registered for 3.5 and waitlisted for the last class he wants. Students have to pay more to take more than 4.5 credits per semester.

D is an incoming freshman. 4 seems to be the rule with 4.5 or other partial courses representing, say, a physical education class such as yoga.

Great, thank you to everyone.
