You should take it a fourth time, but only if you think you’ve improved. I took mine a second time and got my critical reading from a 650 to a 740. taking the ACT at this point is sort of pointless, as after taking the SAT 3 times, you’ve probably gotten better associated with it. Sure the ACT is easier, but that means everybody else will score higher on it too.

In summary, stick to the SAT but make an effort to improve. From your past scores, you seem fully capable of improving.

Hard to say, how long did it take you to go from a 1900 something to a 2120? You should judge your next test by how long it took and how much you studied.

I have almost the exact same dillema and am looking at the same colleges as you.
1st try-2060
2nd-2030
3rd-2160
superscore-2180

I didn’t study very much for any of them but had about 6 months in between like you.
I would say if you have the time then go for it(thats what ive decided to do) Also, I wouldnt worry about doing worse because i dont think that the admissions committy even sees anything but your highest scores at most schools.

Take the Sept ACT, although it may be too late to sign up? What have you got to lose? Try a few tests to familiarize yourself with the format. If you don’t do well, you can always take the October SAT. You’ll have your ACT scores back before the SAT date, and if you did well on ACT, cancel the SAT.

Well I suppose you really want to get your reading score up. I’d say don’t retake, a lot of top colleges look at you kind of funny if you take the SAT a bajillion times, they think “Does this kid have nothing better to do than take tests all day?”

Then again, to play devil’s advocate with myself, it’s probably best to take it again because your math score really doesn’t mean as much as your reading score in terms of college. SAT Math doesn’t have much to do with college math, but reading skills are needed everywhere.

My girlfriend is taking her SAT for the third time in October, but she’s applying to less selective state colleges where I assume admissions goes something like “Does this meet the cutoff? Okay, thank you, next folder please.”

I wouldn’t take the SAT this time if I were you. Over 2000 is already good enough, and I don’t see that there’s no point to waste 50$ in order to either improve or lose points.

over 2000 isn’t necessarily enough for the schools he/she wants to get into and it’s never wasting $50 to take the SAT again, a little improvemet could go a long way.
