I am going to be a senior next year and am unsure whether to take 5 or 7 classes. I am in Texas and am 35 out of 618 (top 5.6%) in my class and will be auto accepted into any Texas school with my rank and I also plan to stay in Texas. However, I have heard this auto acceptance rule just guarantees tuition and not that I'll get the major of my choice. My counsilor has told me that colleges like to see difficult classes my senior year and that'll help me get into the major of my choice as well. Do you guys think I should take 7 classes for this reason? My schedule is as follows:

AP English
AP Calculas AB
AP Psychology/Health
Guitar
AP U.S. Gov/ AP Macro

If I take 7 classes then I'll add AP Statistics and AP Physics 2. My SAT score is a 1670 by the way if that helps any.

Seniors need to take at least six classes in my school. I’ll continue taking seven courses. If my course requests don’t match up to my schedule, I have ASL as a back-up (almost always offered 7th period, when all but a handful of seniors have their free period.

i took only 5 this year and we have 7 courses. TRUST ME, it’s so worth it. i had a similar schedule but instead of psych, i had AP french, and instead of guitar, i had anatomy. I kind of regret signing up for 5 AP tests too.

and i’m pretty sure you still have to apply for your major and you’re just guaranteed a spot. my friend is something like top 10% barely and he has to reapply for UT business next year.

for a bit of perspective, i got into Boston College with just 5 classes senior year. so it shouldn’t hurt you too much.

The Stats and Physics 2 classes at my school are not very hard at all, the only reason I wouldn’t take them is cause of laziness. You guys think I’ll get a major of my choice fine with only 5 classes?

I don’t understand how your high school classes have anything to do with what major you go into in college. Once you’re in a college, it matters how well you do there, and high school is useless.

AP Gov/Eco counts as one class because they are both semester courses. Also, why can’t you take just one more… why not just take Stat and not Physics?

I could take both Stats and Physics or just one. I for some reason feel like doing 5 (the minimum req) or 7 (max req) classes and not doing in between :S

Take the 5… My D had the following, super senioritis. You will be so busy with college aps, interviews, campus visiting. Take the lighter schedule Take 6. leave wiggle room

AP Lit
AP Calculus AB
AP Govt/Macro
Physics
Latin III
Symphonic Band
Physics

As a current senior, I’m technically currently taking 5 classes, but two alternate being 1 and 2 bells every other day, so I always have 6 bells. And all of first semester I was also taking one university class and one community college class. And I’m self-studying another AP. So, especially at the beginning of the year, I had 8 bells.

But I think your sched sounds good. AP Phys C is hard, but if you’ve taken AP Phys B already, I say go ahead and take it.

5 or 6, I thought I could handle more after junior year, but you will be incredibly busy and by second semester, you’ll wish you could drop all your classes. It just isn’t worth it, because 2 extra classes won’t improve your chances that much. As long as 5 or 6 is still considered most rigorous or rigorous than you’ll be fine. Also, most difficult doesn’t mean more. Take more APs, less regular
