Taking a better class...somewhere else

Hey all! I just had a question regarding a personal issue. Currently, my school only offers a dual-enrollment like Chemistry course (in school). From what I've heard about the class, it's a quote "joke" class...one that takes weeks to go over stoichiometry... Perhaps it's due to the fact that it's a joint partnership with a community college? So...because I love science...I've taken the liberty of reading off my Chemistry textbook over this summer and have pretty much completed an entire year's worth of Chemistry. Now, here's where the fun starts :)...

In my school district, AP Chemistry is offered. It's not offered at my primary school, but my school district allows students to enroll in courses that are offered at another school if they aren't offered in the one students are currently attending. They "require" one year of prior Chemistry, but as I've said, I finished one year...possibly more... Questions!

Would it look a weird to an adcom (in the fuuutuuureee) if my friends took the community college Chemistry course while I took AP Chemistry at the other school? I've heard some schools compare students' transcripts etc. Are AP courses known to be harder than these dual enrollments? I don't want to look like I'm chicken-ing my way out of a "joke" class. The thing is... This has never been done before for Chemistry.

Honesty, even if it'd look bad, I'll probably take AP Chemistry...there's just so much more I'd be able to learn @@...!!! Just wanted feedback from you guys :)! Also, there could be one more potential problem: the "one year of Chemistry prior" prerequisite might hold me back. Do you guys have advice so I can get some leverage in my petition to enroll in AP Chemistry Oo...? Muchas gracias!

You could ask your guidance counselor to note that you make an effort to go to a different school to take the AP class which was more rigorous than the dual enrollment class in his/her recommendation… but I don’t think an AP class would ever be looked down upon. Just be certain you can physically get where you need to be on time every day before you decide to take a class at another location.

I’ll most likely be late (2-5 minutes) every day, but they’ll understand. I’ve had friends who took German like that who are “excused” in a sense.

AP classes are generally better than dual enrollment classes if in the same subject because they are standardized and have an exam at the end. Many colleges won’t accept dual enrollment credits that are taken at your high school (they have policies that it must be taken on a college campus, from the course catalog, with matriculated students). But they will take AP exams!

Honestly, I’m not that crazy about the credits. I guess it’d be awesome to pick up along the way, and it might be useful to have some in case you end up in your state college etc.; however, I’m more in it to actually learn something :)… Also, I fall asleep if I get bored, so… XD
