My son is a freshman at UA. He wants to take a class at the local community college this summer. As far a UA is concerned, what’s the process for doing this? Do you just take the class and have the grade sent to UA or is there more to it?

Take the class and have the credits sent. it’s not a big process.

Is your son pre-med? If so, then he shouldn’t take anything that is a premed prereq.

My sophomore daughter took a class at the local community college last summer (and plans to do so again this summer). She got a transient letter from UA which gives permission for taking classes at another school and also states the equivalent classes at the CC. Here is a link to a video describing the process: [Transient Letter Intro Video | The Office of the University Registrar - The University of Alabama](http://registrar.ua.edu/services/mystudent/transient-letter-intro-video/)

My d needed a letter of transiency which she found on Mybama.

^What they said. Make sure that the classes will transfer before registering.

Keep in mind that many, if not most grad schools will require transcripts from ALL colleges/universities attended. Transcripts will cost anywhere from free to $15 each depending on the school.

My sophomore daughter got her calculus requirement out of the way at Calhoun last summer. She plans to take her literature requirements at Calhoun this summer.

It’s about the only way she’ll be able to do a bio major, music (flute) minor, psychology double minor, honors college requirements, and also a semester abroad.
