What do colleges think of taking courses over the summer? I'm a Junior in high school and am thinking of taking AP Psychology over the summer through CTY (online). It's not like I'm thinking about taking this course just because I'm hoping it'll look good - I actually really wanted to take this course, but couldn't fit it into my senior schedule. But I AM curious. How does it look? And would you recommend taking the course at say, University of Maryland or Johns Hopkins (if that's even possible), instead of through CTY?

Erm…why would you think they wouldn’t like it? It’s better than doing nothing.

I haven’t gone a summer without taking summer classes since middle school.

It’s not that I think colleges will think summer courses look bad - I just thought that summer courses might not mean much of anything at all (since you PAY to take summer courses, it’s not like you were specially selected or anything). I’ve taken summer classes since I was in middle school too, but I was just now wondering how it looks for admissions.

Sorry if I seem uninformed or anything :

it doesnt look bad, but its not something unique.

It’s great because you show a passion for learning as well as initiative. But I have to say it’s not unique. But it’s better than someone who plans to sit at the beach all day!
But still, do it anyways because AP Pysch sounds awesome and I bet you’ll really enjoy learning something you want to learn!
