I want to take Intro to Sociology (only Section 17 fits into my schedule) but I noticed that very same section has now been closed off when it was open yesterday. Is there a chance some classes like this will show up as open during the Add/Drop period? Anyway I could get a special permission number to attend Section 17?

I also have more questions about this…and it would help me and the OP if they were answered:
If i wanted to take a different course and it was closed, should i attend that class the first day to get an SPN? If my request for an SPN gets declined, can i attend a different section? Is it the professor of the class that gives the SPN or the department? And is the SPN the same for all the sections of the same class? How hectic is the add/drop period? And how certain is it that i will get the classes i want?

I think it’s easier to get a special permission number for a large lecture class than a smaller one. Some classes will say actually say ‘no special permission numbers given’.

Each professor has a certain number of special permission numbers; it may be zero, 3 or 10 (just an example). Once they are gone, they are gone, so ask early. I would start by calling the department.

Classes open and close during add/drop so keep watching webreg; don’t give up too soon!

I looked at my schedule, and saw that I’m missing a major course. I need to add the course to my schedule, but the time the course is offered overlaps with my other classes. In other words, even if the course section is open during add/drop period, I can’t find a spot on my schedule to add it.

So does that mean I have to construct a whole new schedule just to add that extra course? I’ve already purchased all the textbooks for all my courses even before I received my schedule, and it will change some major textbooks if my schedule gets rebuilt. I would hate that very much.

@Sixflags Just curious, but what class is it? If it’s something like matlab or expos, those are usually taken interchangeably, so you take one in the fall and the other in the spring. If it’s chem lab, that class fills up very quickly and you can always take it in the spring.

It’s chemistry. I sent them my AP scores by mistake (didn’t know any better back then), and now I have to add 3 more courses including chem. If I add the 2 other - which go perfectly, chemistry doesn’t fit my schedule.

i called the registrar today and they told me that they don’t want freshmen to be changing their schedules yet, so sections are closed. but during the add drop period, some will be open since there are always students who want to drop the course in the closed section.
