taking a class twice

if you've taken a class p/np and passed the class, can you take the class again for a letter grade for the same number of units (4) say if you actually decide to take a class for a major?

anyone/???

Don’t take my word for it, but I think you can take a class again for a letter grade, since you’ll need to be on a letter grade basis for it to satisfy your major requirements. However, I think if you retake a class that you passed, you get no unit credit for it, as a credit code of G5 will be on your transcript, meaning “No credit allowed; C- or better grade repeated.”

[Grade and Credit Code Definitions - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Records/gradeskey.html) if you want to see for yourself.

Someone else will probably know better than I would.

You can petition to have your grade changed to a letter grade if the actual letter grade you would’ve gotten is on record. <– I did exactly this with Linguistics 100
