Taking a class without Pre-req

So for this Spring, i’m currently taking a CMN class without taking CMN 101 and 102 and I got a an e-mail by an adviser that I “will be dropped after the last day of adding classes.” If i’m not mistaken, advisers cannot drop us, only the Dean, correct? I mean I know 2 people who took a communications course in Winter, without taking the pre-req and nothing happened to them. Will I be dropped? I’m going to risk it.

Professors can also drop you from the course if they strictly adhere to the prerequisites required (only reason I know this is because when I took BIS 2B, I got an email that said I needed to show proof I took the equivalent of BIS 2A at community college (which I did) in order to not be dropped from the class). Check with your instructor to see if the prerequisites are absolutely enforced (because there are professors who don’t enforce prerequisites at all and don’t check to see if you’ve had them done–for example, my roommate took NPB 101 without taking any of the prerequisites and she did fine).

Did the email from the adviser specifically say that it was for that specific CMN class?

Yes the e-mail from the adviser said it was for that specific CMN class. I know that my prof. won’t drop me if I do stay, he said he would let us stay if he could. Guess I’ll wait till Monday or until after the 20 day drop has passed.

Who did you show the proof to?

To the head TA handling registration specifically for BIS 2B.
