Taking a drop

This year i could not perform well in Jee and other exams and missed by few marks.
So I am planning to take a drop and try next year and get through.
Also I am thinking to apply to US colleges this year.
So if I take a drop, will it matter to US colleges, will they reject me?
What extra things I have to do during my drop year so as to impress them?

They won’t reject you but would definitely want to know what you did. No college would like if you wasted time. Besides studying for JEE (which you should include in your list) do something that you always wanted to do … maybe go explore a couple of places or maybe start writing your own blog. Since you would be having time, start writing a book? I mean the possibilities are infinite. Do what you like, choose a couple of activities and stick to them with passion and that should get across to the adcoms through your essays! Have a great year!

and what about filling the applications form?
Will there be any problem???

Nope! You’ll just have to write one additional essay on your gap year. That’s it.

@Heythere7 I didn’t saw any additional essay on gap year on commonapp! Would we have to write in our personal statement?

There is an interruption in education question when you fill out the common app after Aug 1 which will ask you for an essay… basically what all did you do in your gap year

ok @Heythere7 Thanks!

and how much percentage do i need in 12th? I am from state board. How much importance is paid to board marks?

They are very very important part of your application

so should i applying ED or RD ??? which will be better?
If I need financial aid also?

If you need financial aid then RD is better, but if you are dead set on a university then ED helps in admitting and financial aid will be same as in RD.

I am dead set and my whole application would be ready. So am asking which is better chances of getting acceptance??? and if we need financial aid and apply in ED would I be rejected?

Depends on the college. If the college website explicitly states that international students applying ED will either be deferred, or be rejected, then don’t apply ED. Else, you will have a better chance in ED since colleges will be looking to increase their yield.
Also, if you do not receive adequate aid from the college, you can always opt out of the ED agreement.

So, If college don’t mention the rule, i would apply ED and they won’t reject me right? just defer me for RD.

no, if they think you are not a right candidate also for RD, they will straightly reject without deferring you.

so @mak1702‌ what you think I should do? Should I apply ED?

@ajayroxx Sorry for my delay in reply. I would say that If you think that college is your number 1 choice and you would be happy to go there, then apply ED. BTW which college/university are you applying to?

IVY colleges, MIT , Caltech, UCB UCLA and few safety colleges

Good luck

so ED looks good?
