Hi. I just finished a freshmen year at Top 40 national university. I am planning to do one more semester at my current institution and take a gap semester (2nd semester). Given this, is it okay to transfer as a junior? Would the colleges I am applying to look at my high school transcript? (I would be having 45 credits).

Most people do transfer as a junior. Most don’t look at your HS transcripts. What schools are you thinking about applying to?

Thanks for your reply!

I am thinking of Columbia, Dartmouth, Yale, Northwestern, and Georgetown. Would they look at my HS transcript if I have 45 credits (3 semesters) finished?

No problem. Here’s some information on all the college for transfer students and credits:

Just a heads up, a lot of these schools admit less than 20% of transfers. I’d advise you to apply to a few saftey schools. Not trying to discourage you at all, though still apply but keep this in mind.

Georgetown:
[Transfer of Credit - Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/transfer/credit/)

Columbia: [Transfer Admission | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions](Transfer Applicants | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions)

Yale: (couldn’t get their transfer website)

Northwestern:
[Transfer Applicants: Office of Undergraduate Admission - Northwestern University](Application Options: Undergraduate Admissions - Northwestern University)

Dartmouth: [Evaluating Transfer Applications](<a href=“Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions”>Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions)

I want to say that Columbia strongly advises against applying if you have 4 semesters of school completed. Not sure why, but I’d call and ask them about that.

Most of the top tier private-schools will request HS transcripts, even if you’re applying for Junior status; Georgetown will definitely ask for your HS transcripts.

Make sure the schools you listed above will allow you to transfer with fewer than 60 semester credits.

Based on the links SMurray provided, Columbia, NW, and GU all clearly state HS transcripts are required. You’d have to download the Dartmouth application to determine if they require it too, but odds are they do.

As for SMurray’s comment on Columbia advising applicants with more than 4 semesters to not apply, Columbia’s discouraging students applying for “Senior” status. Why? Because Columbia is questioning why would any student want to transfer with only 1-year left? And Columbia will most likely require the student to physically attend at least 4 semesters in order to graduate.

Actually I wasn’t even looking to see if they wanted HS transcripts or not. My fault on that part! I was mainly focused on the transfer acceptance rate and average GPA.

Thanks for clarifying why Columbia discouraged students with 4 or more semesters completed not to apply… I didn’t even think of that.

Considering that most of those schools require HS transcript, how important is it in the application decision? I have 3.5 in HS, and 3.85 after a semester in college.
