Taking a gap year?

<p>This thread is meant to be a discussion on high schoolers wanting to take a gap year(yeah i thought this deserves a whole thread to it). Gap years in countries like the UK are a common phenomenon, as it gives an individual a productive year to mature beyond regular schooling before he gets into university life. The point is that I haven't really heard people taking gap years in the US. How is it considered in the college admission process, and what are your thoughts on it?</p>
