Taking a Gap Year?

Hey everyone,

I applied as Undergrad for Fall '09, and I haven't received any acceptances or refusals yet, but I'm hoping for the best! (Duh...)

I was just thinking lately about taking a Gap Year before starting school and I wanted to ask if anyone has done that with McGill before, or has any information on it (and if they even let you in the first place...)

Thanks!

As a matter of fact I am currently on a gap year.

I’m thinking of doing the same thing. Does McGill allow anyone who wants a gap year to take one? Do you have to have some sort of plan of productive things you’re going to do in your year off?

I’m in my gap year now too, but I didn’t defer, I just applied during my gap year.

Haha, you really really REALLY have to plan productive things. Because, believe me, if you don’t, you will be bored out of your mind. My gap year was unexpected, so most of my planning was impromptu, but so far I’ve done lots of travelling (leaving in a few days for the UK, too, and then the US), and I’ve started to do things that I wanted to do in school but never found the time to start. I bought a guitar  and I’m trying to teach myself, I’ve started piano lessons again, I started a diet (lol, it’s been really successful, however, i’ve gone back to my normal eating habits :(), umm and I’m planning on going to the Philippines to work at an orphanage when I come back from the US.

Oh, and McGill asked me to write a list of things I’m doing in my gap year.

Haha that’s really cool. I’m just thinking of going somewhere far (maybe to my grandparents) and getting a job and just working, getting some money to get a head start. I just want to know if McGill will let you defer yourself for a year and just start again the next year year WITHOUT applying again.

i was actually wondering the same thing. Lets say if i get rejected by Mcgill, I can still apply during my gap year?
Although I’m already accepted by Georgetown and Notre Dame, their ridiculously high cost is frustrating…
