taking a pre-med req at a different (but equally prestigious) university

Does anyone know if I can take a pre-med class over the summer (physics) at an equally prestigious institution over the summer? I got to UC Berkeley and want to take the class at Stanford. I've done a lot of searching, but I've found no definite answer. Some college websites (Northwestern's) say that it's ok, as long as they it doesn't count for your degree requirement at your home college. But other people think differently.

I'm a psychology major, so physics definitely wouldn't count towards my major or anything. I'm just behind in terms of pre-med classes, and it would be WAY more convenient for me to take physics at Stanford than at Berkeley this summer.

Help!

Go for it - not going to hurt your app at all.

Thanks Icarus! Do you have any information to back your answer up?

The big problem is that you should really be spending your summer doing full-time EC’s.

nope haha - other than personal knowledge being a student interviewer for my med school and knowing lots of the adcom members.

Sweet.

@bludevilmike: I know, I know. I’m only a freshman right now, but I have over 60 hours of volunteer experience at a local hospital already, so I’m on the right track I think. I plan on doing as much research as possible as an undergrad, and will hopefully get some internships in upcoming summers.

Thanks guys!!! If anyone else wants to chime in with a different answer, don’t hesitate!

If Berkeley is equally prestigious, why don’t you join the Stanford kids at Santa Clara in the summer?

What?

Also, I talked to a peer adivsor about it today. She said it’s chill.

Also, I meant “equally prestigious” in a relative way. Obviously Stanford is much more prestigious than Berkeley, especially in the Bay Area. I just didn’t want people to think I wanted to take this class at a community college, which is a definite no-no. Berkeley and Stanford are much closer in prestige than are Berkeley and a community college.
