Taking a prerequisite for a class at a different cc?

So I’m enrolled at Skyline College and they don’t offer Math 252 (calc w/ analytic geometry 2) over the summer… the College of San Mateo does. Can I still take it considering it’s prerequisite Math 251 (calc w/ analytic geometry 1) was taken at Skyline?

Btw, Skyline College and the College of San Mateo are in the same district.

Always check with your advisor at your home institution (in this case, Skyline College), when thinking about taking classes at anther school.

In this case, I’m sure it’s fine, since CC’s usually are not that concerned with you taking courses at another in-state CC. However, 4-year institutions will set restrictions on courses you may take over the summer at other institutions.

It’s always best to check with an advisor, and even if it’s fine, since you’ll want to make sure you get credit for the course and that it’s on your transcripts.

If it helps any, these are the articulation agreements for the each cc and UC Berkeley.

I attend Skyline College as well and many of my classmates in my physics classes take courses at our neighboring community colleges, since Skyline’s physics sequence is a bit weird. Skyline, CSM (College of San Mateo), and Canada College all use the same website to register for classes so they’re equal.

However I noticed something interesting… I’m applying as EECS and my assist report specifies:

If a series of courses at a community college is required (e.g., English 1A + 1B

  • 103 = English R1A and R1B), all the courses in the series must be completed,
and must (unless otherwise indicated) be completed at the same community
college. Partial completion (e.g., 2 of the 3 required courses) will result in
zero credit toward the requirement(s), and the applicant will NOT be considered
    for admission.

That message wasn’t on the assist report for CS (which I’m assuming is your major), so I’d contact them just in case.

How about in UC Davis’s case?

I don’t know because the MATH 21B Calculus articulation is different for both colleges. Skyline only requires Math 252 but the College of San Mateo requires both Math 251 and Math 252.
Not sure if I’ll get credit for it if I take Math 251 in Skyline and Math 252 in the College of San Mateo even if they are in the same district.

I’d imagine as long as you finish Math 251 and 252 it would work, but just in case you can make an appointment with a transfer representative from Davis.
