From 9th grade to 10th grade I took Honors Math at school, I regularly scraped by with B's and one C.

I've never been good at Math and I would say I'm only above average.

Junior Year, I opted out of Honors Pre-Calculus because I did bad on the first two tests and the teacher was very tough (doesn't really teach; no math degree etc.)

I took regular Pre-Calc and received an "A", I still had a tough course load with all AP's and Honors except for Math. This senior year, I'm taking AP Calc B/C and I have an "A" in the class.

I'm kinda scared that taking regular Pre-Calc was a bad idea because it would look bad to colleges/universities, I however took advantage of the easier class and used my free time to study for SAT & ACT (2200 & 33) and self-study AP's (received National AP Scholar before Senior year), as well as sports/extra-curriculars.

My question is, was it a bad idea? would colleges right me off as a coward who didn't take the hardest math class for junior year?

46 out of 789 isn’t top 5 % lol. And I am sure you will be fine, colleges will see 2 AP classes, an honors + x amount of AP’s you self studied (props if you self studied bio). Also you are in BC calc now so its not like you took pre-calc then some fluff course…

What people don’t realize is high school is simply proving what you can do to colleges. Proving your ability, work ethic, etc. If you have a 700+ on Math, and can maintain an A or A- average in Calc BC, it will show that you are very good at math. They won’t say "well he/she is obviously terrible at math because she took reg pre-calc junior year. They will say “wow math is clearly his/her weakest subject, and he/she is really good at it!”. Don’t worry, and 46/789 is not top 5% lol I guess that shows your true math skills! haha just kidding. Anyway, good luck with everything, and I hope you go where you want to go.
