Taking a semester off, a good idea?

Im currently a sophomore in school. I transferred here second semester of my freshman year. Not having that great of a time to be honest. I dont really have many friends, and my one good friend here from home I try to avoid clinging to because I dont wanna follow him, and wanna be able to do my own thing. I feel like we're starting to drift apart which sucks and make things really uncomfortable when I see him, cause he's having a good time and we always hang out when we're home cause we have the same group of friends. So far doing my own thing isnt going so well. I'm pretty miserable and am not that close to deciding a major, and I've gotta make up my mind soon. I'm not a weird kid or anything i just have pretty bad anxiety about basically everything. I've been seeing a counsellor at school to help me deal with it. Anyways, ive been considering transferring schools in the hopes of things getting better but lately I've also considered taking this spring semester off, to kind of take a step back and consider my options, and find out what i wanna major in. I was just wondering if anybody had any advice about taking a semester off, and transferring. If it's a good idea or not? If anybody has done this or considered it I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

A lot of kids who take a semester off never come back. I would advise looking into transferring, or finding a way to make your stay at your current university more tolerable. I myself am in a similar situation, so I can’t offer you much advice.

It really depends on who you are. I had to take a semester off because I just needed a break from studying and I really needed to get money in my pocket as a full time employee. I’m not going to lie, I really didn’t want to come back because I’m one of those people who like to pay bills and work but my families hopes for me getting a degree, plus my never wanting to quit, got me through.
I’m so glad I took a break, and now I’m part time which is perfect for me. Less studying/class time and more work time. It’s way less stressful and I have a 40 work week and plenty of time to study. 2 A’s. You have to do what you feel is right. You can always come back to college and being a 24 year old student is great… “was I really like that at 18?” HA!!!
