So, I'm toying with the idea of taking a semester off. Due to financial reasons, I cannot afford to pay for college all on my own. Recently, my scholarships and fafsa money have fallen through and I may lose $13,000 in aid. So, I was wondering what you guys think about taking a semester off? Would it be good to take some time and save up the money to go, or should I take out loans and not take off a semester? I am afraid that waiting until January could look bad and ruin my academics. Any ideas?

If the way you were planning to pay for college has fallen through, it does sound like the prudent thing to do is take time out, reassess and find a way to make it affordable- not by taking out private lons.

I agree with taking the semester off. How do you loose the aid? Did your income change? Was it a one time scholarship? The reason I ask this is if you do not get this aid the school may be unaffordable in the future.

If you do plan on taking the semester off do something during that time. Get a job and prepare for the upcoming semester so you don’t get out of academic mode. You could watch lectures online or read textbooks.
