I am currently a freshman in my first semester at the University of Pittsburgh. I am not happy here and I am looking for options to get back home and go to school in Boston. I have been very depressed since I got to school. I have been going to counseling and therapy. I definitely want to get out of this school as soon as possible. I don’t know if I should try to transfer to another school for the spring semester. Or if I should finish the year at Pitt then transfer for next fall. Or take a semester off and go to community college or get a job during that time then transfer for next fall. What are the pros and cons to each? Which will be the easiest route? Which will be the most difficult? Will taking time off effect my chances of getting into schools? HS GPA: 3.34 (unweighted) SAT: 1750
For many people, it is difficult to transfer as a spring admit. Transferring in the fall usually menas a college with host transfer activities for incoming students so they can meet other people. It will be easier if you can continue the year and stick it out with decent grades. Starting at CC might be a waste of time if the new college you try to get into doesn’t accept CC credits. Having said that, maybe the best choice with your current mental health issues is to give yourself time to clear your mind. Get a job, find out what publics in your state will accept CC credits, and start thinking about your options closer to home. Only you can decide whihc option is best for you, but I urge you to discuss this with your parents too. They will want to,help you.
