So I applied to SUNY at Binghamton for the upcoming fall semester, but was placed on the waitlist with guaranteed acceptance to the Spring 2015 semester. I hadn't really thought about taking a semester off before, but would it look bad on my academic record to have taken some time off? I was thinking about taking classes, meanwhile, at Hunter College (since I live in NYC), but what would the best course of action to take be? Other schools I am considering going to are SUNY at Buffalo and SUNY at Albany.

I'm interested in going to medical school in the future, so I'd be on the pre-med tract at these schools. Which school has the best reputation for medical school acceptances? Which school would be the best choice for me?

I am also in the same situation; fall- wait list, spring 2015- acceptance with an interest in medicine. I’m also considering Hunter, SUNY at buffalo, and Albany or a semester off then attending Binghamton. No idea what i’m going to do either :/

Haha it’s pretty freaky how similar our situations are @Osuuee.

Another question: I know that Bing accepts IB credits, and I’m taking Biology HL for which I will be getting credits, but does that mean I’d not have to take Biology classes at Bing since I’m on the pre-med tract and all?

Well if you definitely want to go to Binghamton for spring 2015 semester I’d say go to your local community college for a semester and take courses that will transfer to Binghamton towards your degree. Since it’s only one semester, it won’t affect your application to med school when you graduate Bing. Going to your local community college will save you money.

On the other hand, if you are accepted to Albany or Buffalo and they want you in the fall, why wait? I don’t get that idea of being told you are not quite up to fall expectations, come in spring. You can start at Buffalo or Albany and if you don’t like it you can switch but it would be best to put your all into the school you start at as if you were staying.Don’t short yourself. Make friends and become fully engaged in what is going on. My guess is they are counting an a certain number of drop outs after the first semester. Buffalo’s science is better than Binghamton but I think English is stronger at Binghamton.
