Taking a W and dropping an unnecessary class?

I recently was told by a college counselor that I didn't need a class I was taking-it wasn't transferable, and I no longer need it for a higher level class. In addition, I HATE the class. It is taught terribly by a Cal Tech PhD alumni, but teaching is just not his specialty. However, I have a 99% in the class. Is it worth dropping and saving my time? If I drop this class I would have 2 W's in my first semester of college, however. I don't plan to have any W's after this, so is dropping the class worth it?

Are you not almost done with the class? (If your on semester the end of winter is 4 weeks or so away) If your getting a 99%, personally, I would stay in it. However, if you really hate it.....do what you think is best. If anything you can see it as a GPA booster.

Hmm, you make a valid point. But it wouldn't affect my transferrable GPA, and I believe I'm just wasting my time in the class. I know that if I do drop and end up with two classes for the semester, I'll get a transferrable 4.0 in the semester for sure. However, I want to challenge myself-two courses in one semester isn't exactly the hardest of curriculum, you know?

What do you mean transferable GPA? GPA is never transferable. It's always school-specific.

Personally, I'd stick with the classes. No point dropping them if you're doing well in them. It's not like you can get refunds this late in the game either. Another thing you should be aware of is that colleges consider the difficulty of course load and only having two classes for a semester would look a bit skimpy.

Sorry-when I meant "transferrable GPA" I meant UC transferrable GPA. But I see where you're coming from, and I think you're right. I'll probably just tough it out and keep the class. By the way, does anyone have any experience transferring into UCLA's philosophy program?
