Taking a year off before applying?

Hey guys.

I'd like to transfer to Berkeley as a Political Science major. I currently have a 3.90+ GPA with all prerequisites finished, and I will have 60+ units by the end of next spring. My chances of being admitted in late-April are fairly good based on just numbers, and I would love to attend the school next fall.

However, my family's financial situation is not looking good right now like many, and I was considering on taking a year off before applying again to the UCs (Fall 2011) in order to save money, and depend less on potential student loans.

Possibly for the next few semesters (Summer '11, Fall '11, Spring '12), I'd like to remain a part-time student spending the least amount of time at school, and spending most of the time at my job. I'm thinking making 1-2 classes (3-6 units) per semester while I'm working. These will be mostly general education classes and maybe also non-UC transferable classes as I've already achieved the minimum amount of 60 units.

Considering that the year before my next application will consist of only four or five transferable and/or non-transferable general education courses, will my chances of admission be decreased at all?

Bump

No, it won’t hurt you - however some UC TAGs require you to have full time status for both the fall and spring before you transfer.

^Is there a source for that? I know there’s a new TAG system in place now but I wasn’t aware you needed to enroll in extra semesters if you had finished everything (IGETC, 60 units, prereqs).

“some UC TAGs require you to have full time status for both the fall and spring before you transfer.”

is this true?
