Taking a year off before college? Then...

Hey guys, I really need some input so I can apply to colleges this year. I am thinking of taking a few months to a year off of college. One of the main reasons is that I am in America with my family and we are on a visa, and my parents want to go back to their homeland because they don't like it here (still not used to the American culture after 14 years), and I would have to go back with them and apply for a visa as an international student. Also, my parents want to take my brother and I on a trip around Europe and Asia before we get any older, so we could all enjoy this trip as a family.

So I was wondering, if I'm graduating in June '13, should I apply for spring, summer, or fall semester '14 as a freshman? I heard it's the best to apply for a fall semester but I'm not sure if I will be so behind that I will have to apply in the summer to do some extra classes so I won't be too behind when fall starts..

Thank you guys so much! I've been a silent reader for a while, and I love how helpful you guys all are.
