Taking a year off between cc and college?

Right now I am finishing my last semester of community college. I have really enjoyed my experience and can’t believe how fast it went by. The problem is, I never registered to transfer to a 4-year college yet.

One of the reasons is that I am still not 100% sure on my major. I am an art major specializing in graphic design and even though I love the classes I don’t know how I feel about making a career of it.

Another problem is that I have felt very ill this semester. I have had to go to the doctors multiple times over the past couple of months to find out what could be wrong with me. I don’t think I could handle feeling like this and living away in a dorm at the same time.

So now it is very close towards the end of my semester and I feel so guilty that I haven’t made any decisions in transferring. Does taking time between transferring affect anything? Will I lose scholarships because of this? Maybe I should try to apply somewhere despite how I feel. Or take a couple more classes at CC? Has anyone been in this boat? I would greatly appreciate any words of help.

Thank you.

There is no problem with taking a semester or a year off. So please, don’t worry about this.

Use your time off to deal with your health issues, think about what you really want to major in, and find good places to apply to for transfer. There is no reason to rush things.

Thank you for your input. I have this sense that I will probably feel like a failure if I do take a break. I know it is better not to rush things but I can’t help but wish I had gotten everything in order.

Don’t feel like a failure! Look on this as a good chance to have a break before you get on with the rest of your adult life.
