Taking a year off!!!(Chances)

What does a weighted GPA mean ?
and those stats are like 3.9/4.0 for international admits how much does that suppose to mean in CBSE percentage ?

In the US, high schoolers are allowed to choose whatever classes they want. Naturally, class difficulty (and hence the easiness of getting a top grade) varies for different classes. So weighted GPA is calculated taking that into account - for example, a B on a difficult class would be considered equivalent to an A on an easier class and GPA is calculated accordingly. CBSE schools do not follow that system, so you don’t need to bother about it. Our GPAs would be unweighted (they don’t take into account class difficulty). Since your regular marks are on a hundred point scale, simply convert them into a four point scale to get your GPA. i.e., 4*(your marks)/100.

The IBDP also offers different difficulty levels for each subjects here in India. The Extra credit is applicable to all HL subjects taken at IBDP. That is my understanding.

Also like AP Subjects in US, the IB HL Subjects score of 5 and above can also be used to meet requirements of Writing the Essay class or certain pre requisite classes in college.

You will begin to understand this as you get deeper in to the US College Application and Study Pattern process.

From what little I know, an A=4.0. So, depending on what your school or board classifies as an A, calculate your GPA. Use google to find the actual equivalents.

Indian curriculum is tougher than US curriculum so do they take that into consideration or just see a 90%(CBSE) as 3.6!! as Khione told

Schools always consider your application in context, so they will be comparing your marks (and everything else) with other student applicants from India. IMO a 3.6 would be considered fairly good in the US, but that is neither here nor there. They understand that you got 90%+ in a CBSE school, which is no mean feat.

@nikhilravi: Oh, is that how we’re supposed to calculate GPA? I usually just convert my marks to a 4 point scale because that was the obvious thing to do. Plus percentage to GPA converters on Google do exactly the same thing.

Anyway, it doesn’t really matter because once the school sees you’re Indian, they should look at only your percentage because that’s how Indian boards work.

Do i have to ask my school to make me a new brief transcript(US style) or i have to submit my board result copies ?? If the school makes it then can it only reflect my mid-term scores for 12th grade :D

8.8 is pretty average in 10th Standard.Your grades have suddenly shot up in 11th and 12th remarkably and probably you’d want to write that in your essay?
Also, 1 out of 722? Aren’t we stretching it a little bit? Like in India, the usual is 60 students and that makes 12 sections?? Hard to believe.

Also, don’t underestimate your ECs! If you have em’ ,show em’ .
Moreover I don’t doubt you, but again a 2400 is cheesy.

Well, I might sound rude but I want to clarify that I’m trying to help you.Never ever lie to an adcom(come what may). They have the experience to judge profiles.

Lastly, your graph is highly wavy. So,you never know how your app is gonna leave an impact that day.

Good Luck Man(assuming male) .
Cheers !

@Khione - Yes, from what I’ve heard, an A=4.0. High school exams are graded on different scales by individual teachers in the US, but for uniformity’s sake, a universal formula is followed. In fact, Collegeboard has a table illustration this: [How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Convert (Calculate) Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale – BigFuture)

One more thing, Do not convert your grades to 4.0 scale. The adcoms are familiar with the Indian education system.

And I reiterate what the earlier poster said, your class rank/percentile score and the rigor of curriculum plays a more important part.

@heythere I was not kind of serious until 10th grade those are last night scores and in 11th i shifted to another school which is quite a big school and those stats are true, we had a lot of sections and i don’t even know the children in other sections .
Also 2400 for Indian students is just one or two months of preparation .

@anialways Do i need to make a new US style Transcript ?

@everyone also what are my chances ?

It would be nice if you made a single page transcript to condense all 4 years of High School grades. It makes it easy to evaluate your academics at a glance. Also it should mention the class rank/percentile as well.

There are lot of Transcript templates available on the web. which you can alter to suit your requirements. And you can read about transcript here to get clarity on what all you should/can include on the transcript. You do not have to have all that is mentioned here.

Also here is a link to Sample Templates,

@anialways thanks

No problem. Happy to help.

Yeah, I am part of the UC Berkeley class of 2017…shoot out if you have any problems…

@quiverfox What is your major and how is the environment there at Berkelely ?? Also am i any good for UCB considering international ?

EECS, classes haven’t exactly started…but I love most of the people there already.

Yeah, I guess you should be accepted there( they look at scores…but mine was 2050…so), but surprises do happen, so I can’t exactly confirm :p
